Acts of Connection: Age Concern Liverpool & Sefton

Our friends at Age Concern Liverpool & Sefton are inviting schools to mark the week by taking part in a Little Acts of Connection Challenge to raise awareness of loneliness and in particular the impact of loneliness on older adults. Schools may choose to write letters to residents in a care home, make posters about loneliness, host a discussion on how to combat loneliness or fundraise to support the work of Age Concern Liverpool & Sefton.

Athenaeum Debate Event

On Thursday November 20th we will be holding our next debate event in conjunction with the prestigious Athenaeum Club. We will be inviting 4 LLP member primary schools who will be able to bring 10 pupils in Years 5 or 6 to the Athenaeum to debate issues that matter to children. Over the Autumn term, a member of LLP staff will come into school to work with the pupils who will be attending the debate on debating skills and to gather information from the pupils on what issues they would want to debate. The schools will then prepare their arguments and be ready to present them in the Athenaeum Reading Room on the event day. The pupils will then get an opportunity in the afternoon to explore the ‘treasures’ from the Athenaeum archives.

Co-Design Opportunity for Work on Representation of Refugees, Asylum Seekers and Vulnerable Migrants

Liverpool Learning Partnership was one of the recipients of an Our Liverpool grant, designed to support work that helps to make Liverpool migrant-friendly, ensuring people seeking sanctuary in Liverpool can thrive from the day they arrive. As part of this funded work, we are seeking LLP member secondary schools to work closely with us to design a project based on representation of refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants in books and the media. We would be looking for small panels of pupils (possibly School Council or Diversity Champions) to meet with a member of LLP staff to look at ways we could work together on critical literacy and exploring ways vulnerable migrants are represented in books and media.
