The Liverpool Counts Quality Mark helps schools raise the profile of maths, share good practice, and show that numbers matter.
“We strongly believe that the key to improving outcomes – educational, social and work related – for our young people is to focus on and challenge poor and negative attitudes towards numeracy and mathematics in schools, at home, in local communities and in the media.”
“Good numeracy is the best protection against unemployment, low wages and poor health”.
“We firmly believe that if we tackle the ‘can’t do maths’ culture in our schools and communities with a challenging, consistent and persistent approach, we will improve the educational and employment outcomes for the young people of Liverpool “.
About Liverpool Counts Quality Mark
A practical way to build maths confidence, share good practice, and celebrate success across your school community.
The Liverpool Counts Quality Mark gives your school a clear framework, resources, and recognition for raising the profile of maths. Designed for busy schools, the Liverpool Counts Quality Mark helps you showcase your maths culture and engage pupils, staff, and families.
The Liverpool Counts Quality Mark helps schools build a positive culture around maths. It challenges the “I can’t do it” mindset, shows how good numeracy supports everyday life, from work and money to health and wellbeing. It also gives teachers practical ways to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences and other subjects.
Assessment
To achieve the Liverpool Counts Quality Mark, schools are assessed across six key themes. Each school can be recognised at Bronze, Silver, or Gold level, depending on the evidence they provide.
The six themes are:
-
Leadership and Management
-
Workforce Development
-
Promotion and Development of Numeracy and Mathematics
-
Numeracy Events and Groups
-
School-wide Opportunities for Numeracy for Life
-
Family and Community Involvement
How it works
-
Self-evaluate: Schools review their practice against the criteria for each theme using the video and guidance materials in our toolkit.
- Development: Schools take time to work on elements of the criteria and note their development/progress.
-
Submit evidence: The self-evaluation is sent to the assessor.
-
School visit: An assessor visits for half a day to validate the self-evaluation and celebrate good practice.
-
Award level decided: Schools are awarded Bronze, Silver, or Gold and receive feedback to help them continue developing their maths culture.
- Celebrate: Schools are given a plaque and certificate to mark their achievement. They also receive a logo for their website/letter head.
