Liverpool Learning Partnership aims to establish each child as a lifetime reader. Our goal is that all children and young people in Liverpool have opportunities to read for pleasure at home and in school and develop a love of reading.

There is a growing range of evidence which demonstrates the importance of reading for pleasure in both a child’s educational and personal development . According to the OECD, “finding ways to engage pupils in reading may be one of the most effective ways to leverage social change” (cited in Clark and Rumbold, 2006). Research has shown that reading for pleasure is more indicative of academic achievement than the economic and educational status of parents.

Our Reading Coordinator, Jenny Holder, is working with schools and other agencies to build a city-wide ethos of reading. She delivers a range of research informed training sessions focusing on aspects of reading for pleasure, diversity in children’s literature and early reading. There is also a wide range of quality assured resources that schools can access including audits, lesson and activity plans, powerpoints and more. Jenny is available for schools to access bespoke advice, guidance and consultations whether remotely or face to face.

LLP also accesses funding to allow us to deliver themed, age appropriate projects including story sacks.
