Part-funded by the Sister Gwen Appleton Trust, the Inspiring Young Artists programme reached out to 10 primary schools in areas such as Speke, Everton, Kensington and Norris Green. This initiative aimed to kindle artistic curiosity and give pupils an opportunity to work with artists in residence.

Pupils from Kensington Primary, Greenbank Primary, Norman Pannell Primary, Emmaus Primary, Broadgreen Primary, St Cecilia’s Juniors, St Vincent de Paul Primary, Stockton Wood Primary, Whitefield Primary, and Leamington Primary embarked on an enriching artistic journey. They explored the works of John James Audubon at Central Library and immersed themselves in rarely-seen pieces from the library’s archives. The subsequent workshops at the Walker Art Gallery, guided by talented artists— Kate Eggleston-Wirtz, Catherine Garvey, Becky Atherton, Francis Martin, Tina Ramos Ekongo, and Laura-Kate Pontefract—left a lasting impression, resonating positively through social media feedback.

These dedicated schools and artists collaborated to create a captivating exhibition in July, showcasing the artistic expressions of pupils. A modest yet meaningful celebration at the World Museum and Walker Art Gallery provided pupils with a space to reflect on their artistic journey. The opportunity to visit their work in such a distinguished venue added a real sense of accomplishment.

In a notable achievement, 278 young participants successfully attained the Arts Award Discover as part of this project. This recognition underscores their dedication to exploring the realms of art, culture, and creativity. Through their individual artistic journeys, these participants not only developed skills but also showcased their unique perspectives and creative expressions.

Our sincere thanks go not only to the Sister Gwen Appleton Trust but also to the dedicated artists— Kate Eggleston-Wirtz, Catherine Garvey, Becky Atherton, Francis Martin, Tina Ramos Ekongo, and Laura-Kate Pontefract—for their invaluable contributions, making a tangible difference in the lives of these young artists.
