Books with Babies is a 1.5 hour training session designed to help delegates to support expectant mothers and families to read with infants aged 0-1. It provides an overview of brain development, how this relates to the development of reading. and the benefits for families of reading together.
Training Overview
These sessions will help delegates to support parents, carers and other family members to share books with their babies. It provides an overview of the science behind reading and learning for young children and the benefits for families of creating a culture of books and reading in the home.

- The current research regarding brain development and learning in young babies
- The current research regarding early communication and reading
- The benefits of creating a culture of reading in the home
- Ways to support parents- key messages
Outcome of Training
Participants will be able to share consistent messages with parents about the importance of sharing books and developing a life long love of reading.
About The Trainer
Jenny Holder, Reading Coordinator and Communications Manager at Liverpool Learning Partnership,
Jenny is an experienced literacy leader who has worked both as a primary school teacher and in the charity sector, supporting schools and families with developing reading for pleasure.
Who Should Attend?
This training is designed for everybody working within the Early Years sector who work directly with expectant mothers and parents. This includes Early Years settings who may liaise with expectant parents when they visit the setting. This is an opportunity to access training with other professionals including colleagues from Health, Early help and Social Care with the aim of delivering consistent messages to families.
