Brand New World was a visual art project for secondary school students which has given them the opportunity to work with artists in residence. The pupils have used art to explore their hopes and dreams for the future as we come out of the pandemic. This work culminated in an exhibition of visual art at the International Slavery Museum in Liverpool.
6 schools, including 3 special school settings, took part. 116 pupils engaged in the programme with 61 achieving a Bronze Arts Award qualification. Through the project, the pupils developed:
- Knowledge of black artists
- Widened awareness of culture, arts and careers within these industries
- Growth in social skills, confidence, sharing opinions and thoughts
- Knowledge and experience of Liverpool opportunities (e.g. Museums, Galleries, Libraries, Theatres)
- Development of students’ own ideas, creative skills and self belief
Brand New World was supported by the Sister Gwen Appleton Trust.
