Young Minds, Big Voices: World Children’s Day Online Debate Event

Loading Events

In celebration of World Children’s Day, Liverpool Learning Partnership will be holding two debating events to give children a voice on crucial topics like mental health and well-being and equality and inclusion.

Since 2013, the prestigious Athenaeum Club have hosted a non-competitive debate event involving pupils of all ages from schools in Liverpool and Merseyside Region.  Liverpool Learning Partnership are now collaborating with the Athenaeum to coordinate this event for local schools. It’s a wonderful opportunity for pupils to develop their debating skills. However, we do understand that demand for this event vastly exceeds the capacity of the venue.

Due to this, we would like to invite Y5/6 classes in LLP member schools to participate in an online debate event that gives children a voice on crucial topics like mental health and well-being and equality and inclusion. This exciting opportunity means that more children are able to participate in debates about the issues that are important to them.

The event will last for an hour and will include opportunities for both in-class debate and online sharing with peers in other classes and schools. There will be time for two 20 minute long class debates (for which preparation and support resources will be provided) and then time for online reflection facilitated by our staff. This reflection will include opportunities for children to feedback on what was discussed in their classroom using online tools such as Slido.

This will be a highly interactive session and resources will be provided ahead of time to support both preparation for the debates and the debate event itself.

Important: This is an online event hosted on zoom and places are limited. Please ensure you book a ticket for each computer that will be used to join the debate, not per child- ie 2 classes in separate classrooms=2 tickets. Please note that this is an exclusive event for LLP member schools.
