Liverpool Learning Partnership welcomes the government’s commitment to placing enrichment at the heart of every child’s education following the recent Curriculum and Assessment Review. We know from our work across the city that enriching experiences play a vital role in helping young people develop confidence, curiosity, and the foundations they need to thrive. The arts, culture, sport, nature, civic engagement and wider life skills support children to develop confidence, wellbeing and a strong sense of who they are and what they can contribute.
For many years, Liverpool Learning Partnership has championed the importance of offering children rich and varied experiences beyond the classroom. From debating events and pupil-voice opportunities to live creative broadcasts connecting pupils directly with artists, authors and illustrators, we have seen the impact that meaningful enrichment can have on children’s confidence, language, and sense of what is possible. Our work providing opportunities for artists to work with pupils with limited access to the arts and providing creative story sacks to support vulnerable pupils and families demonstrates how access to culture and imagination can transform engagement and belonging.
The introduction of a new core enrichment entitlement reflects what schools, families and communities have understood for a long time: that education must be rich, varied and woven through everyday learning, both in and beyond the classroom. By ensuring all children can access creative opportunities, outdoor learning, performance, volunteering and cultural engagement, we can help to build resilience, raise aspiration, and open the door to new futures.
Liverpool is a city shaped by culture, creativity and community. Our schools and partners have a strong history of working together to give children experiences that expand their horizons and deepen their sense of belonging. We welcome reforms that recognise the value of this work and look forward to supporting schools as they embed enrichment more fully across the curriculum.
We also recognise the importance of implementation. Ensuring every young person can benefit from these opportunities will require sustained investment, time to build partnerships, and recognition of the pressures schools are facing. Liverpool Learning Partnership will continue to collaborate with schools and local partners, while widening our network so that even more children can access inspiring and high-quality enrichment.
Every child deserves the chance to develop their voice, broaden their outlook and discover the strengths and passions that will shape their future. We are proud to continue championing this vision for the young people of Liverpool.
