Please find attached a letter from Ian Byrne MP about The Real Truth Legacy Project.

Dear School Colleagues,

The Real Truth Legacy Project

Survivors and the families of the 97 fans who lost their lives as a result of the national disaster that occurred at Hillsborough on April 15th in 1989 have been involved in a three-decade campaign in pursuit of justice.

The Real Truth Legacy Project was started in September 2021 to ensure that the real truth of Hillsborough is taught across all age groups to ensure that lies and smears about the disaster propagated by the media and state agencies will be eradicated forever.

On 26 January 2022 Liverpool city councillors passed our motion to commemorate the Hillsborough disaster with a dedicated education programme and Hillsborough assembly in all schools governed by the local education authority. The motion was passed unopposed by the council with full cross-party support and this motion was then put through every region in Liverpool City Region. So the Real Truth Legacy Project is unanimously supported politically across Liverpool City Region.

In the zip file you will find the following documents to support you in delivering an assembly to the pupils in your school. Our recommendation is that this is suitable for pupils from Year 5 upwards and it has been trialled with this age group in several primary schools.

1.      An introduction to the project

2.      A PDF assembly

3.      Notes for teachers

4.      Context and timeline

5.      Sources and further information

Colleagues from the LFC Foundation are willing to help schools with this and should be contacted by email: Nicholas.Ryan@Liverpoolfc.com or schools can email the LFCFoundation@liverpoolfc.com – landline contact is 0151 432 5675

With very best wishes,

Ian Byrne
