Liverpool Learning Partnership invites UKS2+ classes to join us for a Liverpool Children’s Festival of Reading online session with Oliver Sykes MBE BCAa whose work focuses on themes of family, empathy and are informed by his own childhood experiences.
About Oliver: OLIVER SYKES MBE BCAa is a popular, multi-award-winning children’s author, poet, facilitator, and producer whose work inspires and empowers young readers across the UK and beyond. In March 2025 he was awarded an MBE for Services to Access to the Arts for Underprivileged Young People.
His two most recent publications include Saving Anwen (Collins Big Cat Read On) and Diesel and Me (Collins Little Wandle Fluency Series). His first verse novel, We Are Family: Six Kids and a Super-Dad (Otter-Barry Books) won the Special Recognition Award at the 2025 Children’s Literature Festivals Book Awards, and has been shortlisted for the 2025 CLiPPA Book Award, The Week Junior Book Awards 2025 ‘Children’s Poetry Book of the Year’ and the 2025 Stockport Children’s Book Award. Praised by BookTrust as ‘excellent’ and by Schools Reading List as ‘fantastic,’ it has also been endorsed by top-authors including Roger McGough, Phil Earle, Rashmi Sirdeshpande, Ben Davis, and Dom Conlan.
About accessing the session: This session will be live-streamed through the Liverpool Learning Partnership website. You will be sent the link ahead of the event.
Booking the session: You only need to choose one ticket per booking. Nearer to the time, we will send a link that you can then share with colleagues in your school in other classes so they can connect to the session. For our records you will be asked how many children will be accessing the session. We understand that numbers may change before the day so please estimate or calculate using the information you have at the moment.
