PLEASE READ THIS INFORMATION BEFORE BOOKING:
This is a Liverpool Children’s Festival of Reading session with Joseph Elliott for Y6 and KS3 classes based on his books The Good Hawk (and the other books in the Shadow Skye series).
Liverpool Learning Partnership member schools* can access this session for free. For non- LLP members, please email admin@liverpoollearningpartnership.com for information about the cost of accessing LCFR events.
About The Author: Originally from Bristol, Joseph studied English Literature and Drama at the University of Manchester, before doing an MA in performance at Central School of Speech and Drama. For the last fourteen years, he has worked as an actor, predominantly in comedy and children’s television. He is best known for playing pirate ‘Cook’ in the BAFTA-winning CBeebies series, Swashbuckle, for which he also wrote many of the scripts.
His award-winning debut novel, The Good Hawk, was released in 2020, followed by the sequels, The Broken Raven, and The Burning Swift.
Children with special educational needs have always been a part of Joseph’s life. His mother is a primary school teacher specialising in SEN and, as a young child, his parents provided respite foster care for children with additional needs. One of Joseph’s first jobs was working in a holiday playscheme for children with learning difficulties and disabilities, and he then went on to work as a teaching assistant at Westminster Special Schools for over four years. Agatha, the heroine in The Good Hawk, was inspired by some of the incredible children he worked with during that time, particularly those with Down syndrome.
About The Good Hawk:
Agatha patrols the sea wall with pride, despite those in her clan who question her right to be there, because of the condition she was born with.
Jaime is a reluctant Angler, full of self-doubt and afraid of the sea.
When disaster strikes, the pair must embark on a terrifying journey to a land where forgotten magic and dark secrets lurk in every shadow…
