As you can see, he’s a pretty resilient elephant that can bounce back from set backs he faces and find a new way to deal with his problems. He wasn’t always that way, though. He needed help from the Resili-ANTS: Learning Leo, Coping Cody, Core Self Courtney, Basics Bob and Belonging Billy and Bella.
Resilient Ralph and the Resili-ANTS feature in the materials for the ROAR Response to Mental Health course. Ralph was designed by a pupil from King David Primary School whilst the ants (based on the five columns of the Resilience Framework) were designed by a small group of pupils from Smithdown Primary School. Ralph and the Resili-ANTs are a great child-friendly way to teach pupils about the concepts underpinning resilience.
Merseyside Youth Association Raise Team and Liverpool Learning Partnership invited schools to enter a short story competition based upon the concept of resilience. Pupils needed to write a story which explains how the ResiliANTS helped Ralph to develop his own sense of resilience.
Six stories have been chosen to be published in a ‘Resilient Ralph’ book, including professional illustrations. The winning authors come from Broadgreen Primary School, Kensington Primary School , Our Lady’s Bishop Eton Primary School, St Oswald’s Catholic Primary School, Childwall C of E Primary School and Kingsley Community School.
