Liverpool Readathon 2018

About the Liverpool Readathon

Last year, Liverpool Learning Partnership, Read for Good UK and 70 schools across Liverpool came together to build a buzz about books and reading.  The Liverpool Readathon supported schools in getting their pupils excited about reading and also raised £16,000 to help bring a regular supply of books and storytellers into Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.  This year, the Readathon is back- bigger and better… running for a fortnight from 5th-16th November.

As usual, the Readathon kit will contain sponsor cards where children can set goals and then be sponsored for reading whatever they want.  20% of whatever a school raises will be used to buy books for its library, 10% is going to support Liverpool Learning Partnership’s wider work on reading for pleasure and the remaining 70% funds Read for Good’s unique programme bringing a regular supply of books and storytellers into the UK’s major children’s hospitals including Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

However, this year, as well as the traditional Readathon sponsor cards, there will also be the option for schools to take part based upon a donation model- where pupils in the school can instead make a one-off donation to Read For Good (eg £1) in return for taking part in Drop Everything and Read sessions and other activities.

Both sponsor cards and D.E.A.R posters and resources will be included in your Readathon kit.  So you can order a kit now and then choose between the sponsorship and donation model later.

Exclusive Author Events for Readathon Schools

Schools taking part in the Readathon will soon be able to book onto our exclusive author events at Central Library featuring Sarah McIntyre and Phil Earle.  Also, two lucky schools (one primary, one secondary) will win a free author afternoon with either Sarah or Phil at their school.  Information about how to book a place will be sent to participating schools soon.

Make sure you don’t miss on these fantastic sessions by ordering your free Readathon kit by completing the attached form, visiting or emailing
